Virtual ‘Cadavers’ Available for College Backpacks
Students Learn the Body with Digital Aids from A.D.A.M.
ATLANTA (Oct. 29, 2007) – Undergrads at colleges such as Arizona State University, Cal Poly, Benedictine University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham started this semester with interactive software on their list of required “textbooks” for their anatomy and physiology classes. A.D.A.M. (NasdaqCM: ADAM), a leading provider of interactive teaching tools created the A.D.A.M. Interactive Anatomy and Interactive Physiology software applications for use by students and instructors.
A.D.A.M. announced that its newly launched Student Materials Adoption Program is already making inroads at the university level. Today’s college students, raised on the computer, can now enjoy the ability to explore the human body structures through the company’s products in the comfort of their dorm rooms and wherever their laptops take them.
“The exquisite level of detail is unsurpassed. I am especially appreciative of the ability of A.D.A.M.’s software to show structures, such as the median and lateral pectoral nerves, that are easily destroyed on a cadaver. It is a great reinforcement for what we do in the labs,” said Leslie Hendon, MA Ed, Instructional Laboratory Supervisor with the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
With complex subjects like human anatomy and physiology, the highly visual graphics and interactive functionality found in A.D.A.M.’s applications accelerate learning and retention. “Today’s students learn differently,” adds Shannon McGuire, Vice President of Education for A.D.A.M. “They want information to be mobile and at their fingertips. Students are more engaged with the material, and even find studying virtual cadavers fun. We have found that they often keep the software recognizing it as a valuable life long resource.”
The Student Materials Adoption Program operates similarly to traditional textbook programs, except that materials are delivered on CDs. A.D.A.M. works with schools and educators to facilitate getting required course materials to students via a variety of means, including bookstores and the Web.
A.D.A.M. has spent the last decade providing educational institutions around the world with an unsurpassed array of products used to help teach students about anatomy, physiology and life sciences. Instructors use the interactive materials within the classroom and computer lab environments, including resource centers and libraries.
